Khaolak Grom Patrol 2026: Thailand's Most Anticipated Youth Surf Event is Officially Here! 🏄‍♂️
The wait is finally over! The most highly anticipated youth surf competition of the year, Khaolak Grom Patrol 2026, has officially kicked off, bringing an incredible wave of energy to our shores.
The event began with a beautiful opening ceremony led by Mrs. Pitsamai Wongkaew, Director of Phang Nga Tourism and Sports. Welcoming young athletes from 10 different countries, the ceremony featured an amazing opening show titled 'SOUTHERN WAVE: Colors of the Sea' performed by Takuapa Senanukul School.
Originating in Bali and expanding across Asia, Grom Patrol is a premier youth surf competition operating under strict, world-class judging standards. Khao Lak is incredibly proud to partner with Asian Surf co to bring this event to life in Thailand. Not only does this give Thai kids a valuable opportunity to experience international competition and build global friendships, but it also firmly puts Khao Lak on the map as a recognized surf destination in Asia, driving our local tourism forward.
Day 1: Firing Heats & Fierce Competition The action kicked off with an absolute bang! In the U14 Boys Shortboard division, our young Thai surfers went head-to-head with some formidable talent, including Indonesia’s Rafael Hiroshi Setiadi, who put on a massive performance with an incredible score of 15.38 to advance to the next round. The stoke level was high all day long!
Family Fun & Lifestyle Workshops While the competition was fierce in the water, the beach was alive with a smooth, family-friendly vibe. We were absolutely stoked to see so many kids join the Grom Surf Clinic, hosted by our team at Memories Surf House, to share the pure joy of riding waves.
The fun didn’t stop there! Families enjoyed a lineup of creative and active workshops throughout the day:

Sunset Chills & Nighttime Thrills As evening approached, families unfolded their camping chairs on the sand to watch the spectacular Khao Lak sunset, backdropped by hundreds of groms free-surfing in the twilight. The curated Beach Market was buzzing, packed with carefully selected local food and craft shops.
The night wrapped up with an unforgettable atmosphere. A packed crowd grooved to the DJ and sang along with the legendary band Pause, enjoying timeless hits like Dao, Tee Wang, and Kwam Lub. Even a light sprinkle of rain couldn't dampen the mood—umbrellas popped up, and the cozy, warm vibe carried on through the night.
Day 2: The Finals (September 26)
The action continues today! Fans across the country and around the world have been tuning into the live broadcasts via the PhangngaTourismAndSport page and Asian Surfco’s YouTube channel.
Since 11:00 AM, the heat has been turned up for the Finals across all divisions. The judges from Asian Surfco and Bali have highly praised the progression of our Thai athletes—especially in the Longboard divisions—noting that they are more than ready to compete comfortably on the international stage!
